Feel Better. Stay Better.

my Story

Margaret Johnson

When my doctor said I needed physical therapy, I chose High Pointe.

Margaret Johnson is not what you typically think of when you visualize a patient having a total hip replacement. As the mother of 3 girls and a teacher at Richview Middle School, Margaret is the picture of health – young, active, and in good physical condition.
After being diagnosed with Legg-Calve-Perthes syndrome at the age of 4, Margaret experienced the characteristic hip pain and decreased movement of the joint from childhood into adulthood. Due to degenerative changes in the hip joint, the blood supply to the “ball” part of the hip joint was disrupted. Margaret’s activities were limited to swimming and other non-impact exercises that placed minimal stress to the joint to avoid further breakdown.
Hip replacement offered Margaret the opportunity to improve her motion, decrease pain, and walk without a limp. Improvements in the components used in hip replacement as well as the surgical procedure itself are allowing patients to undergo replacements at earlier ages – with outstanding results. Margaret was a good candidate for the procedure and she started doing her homework.
After seeking out an expert in the field of total joint replacement, Margaret was advised to secure physical therapy services. She was given the names of two facilities in the Clarksville area and she decided to visit both clinics before deciding where to set up her appointments.
“There really wasn’t a choice in my mind,” Margaret states. “It was night and day difference when I visited High Pointe and then visited the other facility.”
“Most patients don’t realize they have a choice when deciding where to go for physical therapy,” states Jessie Carter, owner of High Pointe. “We do therapy differently and we want patients to make informed choices when it comes to their healthcare. I applaud Margaret for taking such a proactive role in her care.”
Margaret has been working with Ellen Argo, PT, MS, PCS, since starting therapy. Ellen states, “Margaret has been amazing – even though she was scared starting out, I have seen her get more and more confident the stronger she gets.”
When asked what she liked best about High Pointe, Margaret states, “It feels like family – I look forward to coming to therapy (really). I’m going to miss coming.” High Pointe will miss Margaret, too;-)
